On-ground games and rounds
An on-ground game is played in person at the venue: a tug of war, a relay race, a station game. Nobody plays it on their phone. You enter where each team (and, if you like, each player) finished, then publish the points to the leaderboard. The organiser app lists these under Station games.
Who can do this: Org admins set games up, change and remove them. Score keepers enter results, publish them and run rounds.
Where: Event → Content → Challenges. On-ground games are listed under On-ground games below the other challenges.
On-ground games need the Competitions switch on in Modules. Without it, the Team result and Team + individual result cards don’t appear.
Set up a game
Section titled “Set up a game”-
On the Challenges page, click Create.
-
Under In-person, pick the kind of result:
- Team result: a game like tug of war. You record where each team finished.
- Team + individual result: a game like a race. Teams and the players who took part each get points.
You can’t change this after the game is created.
-
Click Set up, then fill in Add on-ground game:
- Title, for example “Tug of War”.
- What to do (optional): rules, setup, what participants should expect.
- How to play (optional steps): click Add step for each.
- Where (optional), for example “Main Lawn”.
- When (optional, information only): Starts and Ends. Shown to participants so they know when to turn up. It does not open or close anything.
- Scoring (or Team scoring): the points for each place. See below.
- Player scoring (Team + individual result only): points for each player’s place. Points for each runner also count towards their team’s total.
- Visible to participants: Nobody yet, All teams, or Selected teams (then choose the teams). Standings stay hidden until you publish the results.
-
Click Create on-ground game.
Points for each place
Section titled “Points for each place”Start from a preset, then change any row:
| Preset | Points |
|---|---|
| Podium | 1st 100, 2nd 75, 3rd 50 |
| Winner takes all | 1st 100, nobody else scores |
| Step-down | 1st 100, then 20 fewer for each place down to 5th |
| Custom | Set every place yourself |
Each row is a Place and its pts. Use Add place for more rows and the cross to remove one. Editing any row switches the preset to Custom. Every other team gets (or Any other player you add gets) sets the points for a place that isn’t listed.
Enter and publish results
Section titled “Enter and publish results”Open the game from the list. Its panel shows a Game setup summary (with Edit setup for org admins) and the results below.
- Under Team results, type each team’s Place. Its Points fill in from the scoring table; you can overwrite them.
- For a Team + individual result, under Player results, search for each participant who took part and add them, then set their place and points. Add only the people who took part.
- Click Save draft to keep the results without publishing them. Nothing is on the leaderboard until you publish.
- Click Publish to leaderboard. The banner confirms the teams, players and points awarded. See Leaderboard.
After publishing, you can still correct a place or points and click Re-publish to leaderboard. Removing a saved player asks you to confirm, because their points come off too.
The list shows Set up for a game with nothing published and Published once results are out.
Run the game again in rounds
Section titled “Run the game again in rounds”When the same game is played several times (a new heat every hour, say), run it in rounds instead of creating a new game each time.
- Enter the results for the current round.
- Click Publish & play again, then confirm “Award round N’s points and start round N+1? Round N is then closed.”
- The round’s points are awarded and an empty next round opens: add the next players.
Once there is more than one round, tabs (Round 1, Round 2 …) appear above the results. A closed round is read-only: “Its points stay on the leaderboard.”
If you opened a round by mistake, Undo round N appears next to the status, as long as nothing has been entered or published in it. It reopens the round before.
Remove a game
Section titled “Remove a game”Org admins click Remove at the top of the game’s panel and confirm. A published game’s points stay on the leaderboard.
