Photo, video, written response and custom
These four types ask participants to submit something rather than play a game. They are the only types (with QR Scan) you can moderate before points are awarded.
| Type | Participants submit |
|---|---|
| Photo | A photo, or several arranged into a collage. |
| Video | A short video clip. |
| Written Response | A free-form text answer. The challenge list shows it as Text. |
| Custom | Whatever the Description asks for: text, a photo, or both. |
Who can do this: Org admins. Score keepers can finalise likes (Finalize likes).

Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Create the challenge and fill in its details (see Create, edit, open and close challenges). Use the Description to say what to capture or submit. For Written Response it is labelled Prompt (shown to participants).
- Decide on Require moderation under Scoring:
- Off: submissions are approved at once and award full points.
- On: submissions wait in Moderation until you approve them.
- Set the Type options:
- Photo and Video: Gallery lets participants browse everyone’s approved photos or videos. Camera only makes them take a new one; off, they can also pick one from their device.
- Photo: Likes lets participants like each other’s photos (turn on the gallery so there are photos to like). Set the Points per like.
- Written Response: Word limit with a minimum and maximum. Set both to the same number for an exact count, for example 3 and 3 for “describe it in three words”.
- Tick Go live when saved to publish straight away, or leave it unticked to save a draft.
- Click Save challenge.
Photo and video options
Section titled “Photo and video options”Once saved, a Photo or Video challenge has a short Game content section:
- Photo: Number of photos, 1 to 9. Ask for more than one and the app arranges them into a collage before submitting. Leave it blank for one photo.
- Video: Longest clip (seconds), 1 to 600.
Click Save content. If an older challenge shows “An older prompt replaces the Description on phones”, copy that text into the Description if you want it, then click Clear the old prompt.
How it scores
Section titled “How it scores”An approved submission earns the challenge’s Points. With moderation on, nothing is awarded until you approve it.
With likes on, likes don’t turn into points by themselves. When voting is over:
- Open the challenge. Under Results, click Finalize likes.
- Confirm. Each photo’s likes become points now. This can’t be undone.
These points show in the ledger as Community likes; see How points work. To add a branded overlay to a photo challenge, see Photo frames.
