Glossary
The words you’ll meet in the dashboard and in this help, in alphabetical order.
Who can do this: Everyone.
Where: Throughout the dashboard.
- Archived: An ended event you have put away with Archive on the Events list. It shows under the Ended tab. It can’t be reopened.
- Captain: The person who leads a sub-team. An org admin can hand the captaincy to another member on Teams → Sub-teams.
- Challenge: Something participants do in the app to earn points: a quiz, a photo, a QR station, a puzzle and so on. You build them on Content → Challenges. See Create, edit, open and close challenges.
- Check-in: Marking that someone has arrived at the event. You do it from the person’s drawer on Participants, or by scanning their pass with the OnStage Organiser app. Each check-in also counts in the Arrival roll-call on Attendance. See Check in participants.
- Draft: A new event that isn’t live yet. Participants can’t use it until you click Go live.
- Drawer: The panel that opens beside the participants list when you click a person. It holds everything about one participant: details, team, check-in, photo ID, points, documents and more. See The participant drawer.
- Ended: An event you have ended with End event. Its code stops working and it leaves the app’s event list. An org admin can reopen it unless it has been archived.
- Event: One occasion you run on OnStage, such as “Acme Sales Summit”. Participants, teams, challenges and scores all belong to one event and never cross into another.
- Event code: The short code people type (or scan as a QR) in the participant app to find your event. You set it on Content → Onboarding. It is 4 to 12 letters and numbers. See Event code.
- Go live: Turning a draft event on, from Overview or the Events list. Participants can then join and start submitting and scoring. See Event overview and going live. (A single challenge also has its own Go live button.)
- Leaderboard: The ranking of participants and teams by points. See Engagement → Leaderboard, or put the TV leaderboard from Overview on a big screen. See Leaderboard.
- Live: An event that participants can join and play in right now.
- Moderation: Reviewing what participants submitted: approve, flag or remove it. Submissions and photo IDs waiting for you are on People → Moderation. See Moderate submissions and photo IDs.
- Module: A feature you switch on or off for one event, such as Leaderboard, Polls or Attendance, on Content → Modules. A few modules that shape how people join (Registration, Photo ID, Teams, Event pass) are switched on Onboarding instead. When a module is off, participants don’t see that feature and its dashboard page is tagged Off. This help also calls modules feature switches; see Feature switches (modules).
- Onboarding: Everything between someone opening the app and landing on your event’s Home screen: finding the event, signing in or registering, photo ID, picking a team and the pass. You set it up on Content → Onboarding. See Onboarding: how people join.
- Organisation: Your company’s account on OnStage. Events and staff logins belong to an organisation. One login can belong to several.
- On-ground game: A game played in person at the venue, such as a tug of war, where you enter where each team or player finished. The OnStage Organiser app calls these Station games. See On-ground games and rounds.
- OnStage Organiser app: The phone app for you and your staff, for check-in, people, the leaderboard and moderation on the day. This help also calls it the organiser app. See The organiser app.
- Participant: Someone taking part in your event through the participant app. Manage them on People → Participants. See Add, import and edit participants.
- Participant app: The phone app participants use to join your event, play challenges and follow the leaderboard. It may carry your organisation’s own brand name.
- Points: What participants (and their teams) earn from challenges and games, plus any you award by hand on Engagement → Points. See How points work.
- Role: What a staff login may do in an organisation: Admin, Read-only, Document uploader, Score keeper or Station staff. See Roles: who can do what.
- Roll-call: An attendance session on People → Attendance: who is present and who is missing. The Arrival roll-call fills itself from check-ins. See Attendance and roll-calls.
- Staff: The people who can sign in to your organiser dashboard and the OnStage Organiser app. Org admins manage them under Staff in the account menu. See Staff logins and roles.
- Sub-team: A small group participants make inside their own team in the app, led by a captain. Needs the Teams and Sub-teams modules on. See Sub-teams.
- Team: A group of participants who play and score together. Manage teams on People → Teams. See Teams and sub-teams.
- Team leader: The one member of a team who can submit team-leader-only challenges for the team.
- Unique ID: A code you give a participant (such as “P001”) that they can sign in with, when Unique ID sign-in is on. It is saved in capitals.
